TRAVELING TO TEL AVIV

Flights

Ben-Gurion International Airport is Israel’s main international gateway. It is an ultra-modern airport with convenient travel connections to the rest of the world, titled one of the Top 10 Best International Airports in the world by Travel + Leisure Magazine. Flights from Europe to Israel typically last 3 to 5 hours, while nonstop flights from New York can take as little as 10 hours. International access and direct flights are available at reasonable prices. Prior to Covid-19, Israel had approximately 9,200 incoming flights every month – operated by both full-service and low-cost airlines. There were 15 daily incoming flights from Frankfurt, 14 from Paris and Istanbul, 12 from London, 11 from Amsterdam and New York and 5 from China and Hong Kong, just to name a few.

Security

Ben-Gurion International Airport is one of the world’s most secure airports in the world. It has layers of security, only partially visible to the 16 million passengers who pass through it every year.

Transportation from and to airport

Ben-Gurion International Airport is located just 25 kilometers from Tel Aviv’s city center. It is a short 15-minute ride by train or 20-minute drive by car. Israel Railways operates a 24-hour train service during the week to Tel Aviv’s main train station (Savidor). In the daytime, the train stops at all four stations in the city, including Expo Tel Aviv.

TRAVELING WITHIN TEL AVIV

Bus

A network of urban and metropolitan buses operates in Tel Aviv, with seven bus terminals spread throughout the city. Buses go to and from Tel Aviv from all parts of the country. Getting around the city is easy and accessible thanks to over 130 inner city and metropolitan bus lines.Bus lines connect Expo Tel Aviv directly to the City’s main hotels by the beach, Rabin Main Square and other main areas in the city.

Train

Trains to and from Tel Aviv’s train stations run once every 5 minutes to every location in Israel including the Ben Gurion Airport. Expo Tel Aviv has its own railway station on Israel Railways main train line (connecting the Convention Centre to TLV International Airport, Jerusalem, Haifa and Beer Sheva.)

Metro

The Dankal Red Light, affectionately known as the Tel Aviv light rail, extends over 24 kilometers, featuring a 12-kilometer underground tunnel, from Aluf Sadek Street in Neve Tzedek, Tel Aviv, to a junction in Petah Tikva. It boasts 34 stations, with 12 stations within Tel Aviv-Jaffa city limits.

Shared Commutes

Additional means of sustainable transportation are also available, such as the city-run ‘Auto-Tel’ car sharing service, whose fleet consists of over 260 cars. ‘Bubble Dan’ is an on-demand, shared ride service that picks up multiple passengers heading in the same direction, keeping rides sustainable and affordable.

Scooters

There is also a variety of electric scooter rental services, such as Bird, Lime and Wind (please note that helmets are mandatory.)

SAFETY IN TEL AVIV

Tel Aviv’s developed nightlife scene, the penchant for 24-hour culture and its comfortable climate year-round all contribute to the high level of personal safety in the city. According to the OECD’s Regional Well-Being Index, Tel Aviv scored 8.6 out of 10 in personal safety, similar to London, Berlin, Paris and Quebec, to name just a few cities, and higher than most regions in the USA. In addition to the Israel Police, the Municipality also operates a public safety force, used by the city for its different needs. Public places, hotels, and convention venues are fully secured and equipped with security cameras, security staff, and members of the Civil Guard. Therefore, additional expenses that conference organizers incur at and around their meeting venue are usually lower than in similar cities.

VISAS FOR ENTERING ISRAEL

Citizens of 99 jurisdictions that belong to the Visa Waiver Program are entitled to enter Israel without having to arrange a visa ahead of time. Nationals from other jurisdictions, who live in a country that does not have an Israeli embassy, will be issued a personal visa four months prior to the congress. A local PCO experienced with handling visa for international congress delegates will be able to help with any visa requirements made by the participants. WEATHER

Tel Aviv enjoys wonderful Mediterranean weather, with 320 days of sunshine a year that guarantee a great visit for conference participants and their partners, at any season.

CURRENCY

The country’s currency is the New Israeli Shekel. Expo Tel Aviv and the hotels quote prices both in USD and in Euros, allowing conference organizers to plan their budget in their own currency without fear of exchange rate fluctuation.

VAT

Israel’s standard VAT rate is 17% (2021). The country adheres to all international agreements regarding VAT reverse charges. VAT will not be applicable on registration fees paid outside of Israel. According to the Value Added Tax (VAT) Law, foreign tourists can benefit from 0% VAT on a vast array of services obtained during their stay in Israel, such as accommodation. In addition, tourists can request a VAT refund on purchases made during their stay.

FREIGHT & CUSTOMS

The freight and customs processes are easy and both adhere to international and EU policies. The events cab is supported by one of the world’s leading freight forwarding companies.

Sustainability is one of three primary goals of the city’s strategic plan. The city has prioritized the promotion of sustainability, environmental protection, and expanding the city’s green spaces, with the focus of lowering Green House Gas emissions, air pollution levels, and reducing waste through recycling and circular economy.
